How To Keep Peace In The Family

Avoid Petty Fights Among Family Members

Little fights are expected in a family. Any family, big or small, will go through disputes especially when the children hit adolescence. They will be spending more time with peers than at home. Many adolescents are at war with their parents. They seek freedom while their parents try to control them. A family with a bunch of children will be quarreling over space and attention. They will be competing against each other on the phone or the car. On the other hand, an only child can be in a heated argument with parents regarding grades or curfew.

Learn To Be More Understanding And Giving

Reasons for fighting among family members can be numerous. It is easy to be irritated and affected with someone’s mannerisms or comments. Fighting over who should do the dishes or who should have the TV remote control is cliché. Yet, these fights happen in almost every household. Fortunately, fights can be easily avoided. Do not allow petty matters to destroy your relationship with your siblings or parents. There’s more to a family than beating one another to the shower or fighting over who should have the car for the weekend. Little fights can become one big crack that will eventually break this team. Learn to be more understanding and giving. It won’t hurt you to step down.

Foster Coperation

Discourage competition among family members. Instead, foster cooperation by making a schedule for everyone like how long one should use the computer, talk on the phone, whose turn it is to use the car, who is supposed to do the dishes this week and such. Everyone should have equal share. Envy breeds insecurity and distrust. Everyone should learn to respect each other’s turn, even the youngest member’s schedule. Be patient when you don’t see improvement right away. Fights are normal and should be considered as an obstacle to overcome. Winning this obstacle will make your family more solid and more united.
